How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Wellness Business
How many Google reviews does your wellness business have? If the answer is fewer than 15, you're at a significant disadvantage to your local competitors.
Google reviews affect two things that directly impact your revenue: your ranking in local search results, and whether someone clicks on your listing versus someone else's. Both of these translate directly into bookings.
Why reviews matter more than you think
When someone searches "yoga studio near me," Google typically shows 3 businesses on the map. The businesses that appear there have significantly more reviews than those that don't. A studio with 45 reviews will almost always appear above one with 5, even if the smaller studio has a slightly better website.
But it's not just about search ranking. When people see two businesses side by side — one with 8 reviews and one with 47 — they click on the one with more reviews, even if the ratings are identical. Volume signals credibility.
The reason most wellness professionals don't have reviews
It's not that your clients wouldn't leave a review. Most would be happy to. The reason is simple: you never ask.
Wellness professionals often feel uncomfortable asking for reviews. It feels like asking for a favor, or being pushy. But here's the reality: your happy clients want to support you. They just need to be asked, and they need it to be easy.
The 30-second review request system
Here's a system that works without being awkward.
After a session where the client had a great experience — they told you they loved it, they seem energized, they thanked you — send them a short message within 2 hours. Not a week later, not the next day. Within 2 hours, while the positive feeling is still fresh.
The message: "So glad you enjoyed today's session! If you have 30 seconds, a Google review would really help other people find us. Here's the direct link: [your link]"
That's it. No essay, no guilt trip, no incentive. Just a simple ask with a direct link. About 30-40% of people you ask will actually leave a review. That's a great conversion rate.
Getting your direct review link
To get your Google review link: search for your business on Google, click on your listing, find "Write a review" and copy that URL. You can also create a short link that goes directly to the review form.
Save this link in your phone's notes app so you can paste it into messages instantly.
The 4-week challenge
If you currently have 3-5 reviews, here's how to reach 15-20 in a month.
Week 1: Ask your 3-4 most loyal, enthusiastic clients. These are your guaranteed yes. They'll leave detailed, glowing reviews that set the tone.
Week 2: Ask every client after their session this week. Don't filter — everyone who seems satisfied gets the message.
Week 3: Send a gentle follow-up to anyone from weeks 1-2 who didn't respond. "No pressure at all — just wanted to resend the link in case it got buried!"
Week 4: Continue asking new clients, and send one final reach-out to any remaining non-responders.
By the end of 4 weeks, you should have 15-20 reviews. That's typically enough to start appearing in Google's local map pack.
Responding to reviews matters too
Always respond to every review, positive or negative. For positive reviews, a brief thank you is perfect: "Thank you so much, Sarah! It was great working with you."
For negative reviews — and they will come eventually — respond calmly, professionally, and empathetically. Acknowledge their concern, apologize for their experience, and invite them to contact you directly. How you handle criticism tells potential clients more about your professionalism than the negative review itself.
